Laser Treatment of BCC

Using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for Image Guidance

Lasers are starting to be used in the non-invasive treatment of BCC and studies indicate that Optical Coherence Tomography, OCT, can provide benefits from effective image guidance during treatment:

  • Ensuring effective treatment of the entire tumour, including margins
  • Enable non-invasive monitoring of any potential tumour recurrence

Using the VivoSight Dx D-OCT scan, dermatologists can visualise the vascular network of the skin within and surrounding the tumour. Blood flow can be seen to be significantly reduced immediately following Nd:YAG laser treatment. (Ahluwalia, J. et.al. 2019)
